The reason why I’ve decided to write this post about gift ideas for photographers is simple – I got angry. Not like grizzly bear angry but you know – a bit poked. As Christmas is getting closer, suddenly tons of Pinterest pins titled like “Amazing gift ideas for photographers” are being smashed right into my face. And most of them are actually quite ridiculous.
Instagram, the social network of the day? Whoa, crazy, right? The ultimate goal of many photographers? Yeah, I kind of gave up. Not entirely. People often tend to think that creating a great landscape photograph is a question of expensive gear and visiting stunning places. That if you have resources to combine these two things, award-winning images will automatically magic themselves into the camera.
But the creation of a good image is actually hard work. Yes, pressing the shutter is involved at some point but there is so much more than that! In fact, it is the entire process that I love about landscape photography.
The time I spend outside, trying to understand the place, and doing all the non-photography pre-work. That’s what really counts and hopefully transfers into the eventual outcome — your image.

Yeah, you got me right. I mean, it’s not a real ‘Iceland photo tour’ because I’m talking here about a self-guided kind of thing. And when it comes to it, it’s not ‘free’ either. You’ll need to get to Iceland first, get a car, a warm place to stay… Right, that should do as a disclaimer.
